Homework due TUESDAY 9/23

In the Discussion and Composition Questions on page 29 of your packet, answer the 1st question:

At the end of the story, Ellen states that she has made a man out of her husband, but Matt Tobin says, “God Almighty did that for him before you were born.” Discuss what you think Ellen and Matt mean. Do you agree with Ellen or with Matt? Explain what you think it takes “to make a man.”

Start out by making a list of notes for Ellen and for Matt and list out points that you feel support each person’s point of view. Turn in your notes, stapled to your essay.

The main criteria that you will be graded on here:

-a solid introduction and conclusion

-clear ideas that are supported with examples

Make sure that your essay is typed, double-spaced, 12 point font with your name, date and assignment in the upper right hand of the paper.

Homework due 9/17/08

Read the remainder of "The Quiet Man" pages 16-26. Underline each word that you don't know the definition of and write the definition in the side column next to the text. You will have an open note quiz tomorrow on the vocabulary within the story.

Homework due 9/16/08

For homework, read page 3-15 of “The Quiet Man” by Maurice Walsh. Pay attention to the notes on the side of story. Then, define the words on the worksheet that I handed out, using the Glossary of Literary Terms, and identify the terms within the story.

Homework 9/12/08

Hello Sixth Formers!

Welcome to my blog. Your homework due on Monday is to write me a letter and tell me about your previous English experiences. Who are you as an English student? Are you a strong writer, but a weak reader? Do you love to read poetry? Do you struggle with grammar?

Please describe your strengths and weaknesses and also your hopes for the year and a personal goal.

Make sure that this is typed and PRINTED by Monday.

So that you know, your American Childhood test will be on Saturday and your in-class writing assignment is on Monday on your other summer reading book.

See you tomorrow!
